Since my first high school research internship in a molecular diagnostics laboratory, I was inclined toward the academic environment. In high school, I successfully participated in several student competitions both at the national (Student’s Professional Activities, Czech Minds (Ceske hlavicky)) at international (EUCYS (Tallinn 2017) and CASTIC (Hangzhou 2017)) levels, which also motivated me to apply for a degree in Medicinal Chemistry at UCL. Throughout my studies, I participated in several undergraduate summer research programmes, namely at the University of Basel, the University of Furtwangen and the Max Planck Institute in Dortmund, which allowed me not only to explore different areas of chemistry but also meet many wonderful people and get to know the academic sphere around Europe. During the pandemic, I decided to study remotely from Prague and take a part-time internship in the Laboratory of Molecular Structure at the Czech Academy of Sciences. In this group, I realised the broad range of possible nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) uses, and I have decided to focus my future research in this field. At the same time, I also got the opportunity to tutor online workshops in Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry at the Czech University of Life Sciences, which was a fantastic experience for me. In 2022, thanks to the incredible support of the Bakala foundation, I gained an integrated master’s degree in Medicinal chemistry. In autumn, I will start my PhD studies at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Prof Tim Claridge and Dr Fay Probert. My project will focus on developing new NMR methods emphasising using NMR in metabolomics. Aside from my academic activities, I dedicate my leisure time to fitness and run a half-marathon. I am also trying not to forget my knowledge of French and German languages, and I have a passion for classical literature, theatre, and opera.
