I come from Prague, where I attended the Johannes Kepler Grammar School before commencing my studies at Imperial College London, reading Physics with Theoretical Physics. I had always been somewhat interested in physics, but it was not until my later years at grammar school when I started solving physics problems just for the joy of it. After countless gruelling hours of self-study, and many physics competitions later, I managed to qualify for the International Physics Olympiad where I won a bronze medal. As an undergraduate, I have already seen glimpses of research in plasma physics and particle physics. This summer, I was slightly unfaithful to my home department at Imperial by undertaking a research opportunity in the neighbouring department of mathematics, where I studied and devised a new, more efficient method for trapping elastic waves which could, for example, be used to harvest energy from seismic waves. Outside of my studies, I am an avid cyclist, which is quite natural for someone living in London, and I enjoy taking photos, predominantly on my film camera. This year, I will also be the acting Vice-President of the Photography Society at Imperial where I will be in charge of organising exhibitions, among other things.
