About Journey

Are you an enthusiastic journalism student looking to take your skills to the next level? Do you love to write? Do you dream of a career in media? If so, apply for a scholarship to the Journey international summer school!
This ten-day, intensive course in Prague, Czech Republic offers a unique opportunity to learn about the latest methods and trends in media through seminars, workshops, and practical exercises.
This journalism program is led by top professionals from renowned global media outlets and agencies including CNN, The New Yorker, Bloomberg, Reuters, the Associated Press, and others. A number of our lecturers are also Pulitzer Prize recipients.

Learn from the best in the field, gain practical skills, build an international network of professional contacts, and become a great journalist.

Who is the program intended for?

  • Journalism and media students who have completed at least two semesters of university/college and have a serious interest in working in the journalism field.
  • Students from other disciplines who have experience with journalism or demonstrate a strong motivation to become journalists.
  • Fluency in English is a program requirement.

What will you gain from your Journey?

  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in modern journalism;
  • Practical experience creating longer stories with visual components;
  • Enhanced knowledge of journalistic ethics, together with a solid understanding of the basic principles of journalism;
  • The ability to report from the field in real time and in a foreign country, and to create written and audiovisual reports;
  • Experience working under the guidance of experienced journalists and editors;
  • The skills to collect and analyze data in an organized and timely manner, as well as to identify, develop, and utilize resources effectively;
  • Experience adhering to strict ethical standards;
  • Investigative techniques and guidance on how to compile a report;
  • Practice verifying the authenticity of information shared on social media.

Applications open and should be completed online in English.
April 3, 2024
Applications close. The online application must be completed and submitted by the deadline, 23:59 (CET). Applications received after the deadline or incomplete applications will not be considered for selection.
April - May
An expert jury will select program participants based on the eligible applications received. Participants will be notified by May 13 the latest and will subsequently receive details about the logistics of the program.
August 3 - 13
The Journey 2024 program takes place in Prague, Czech Republic. The Bakala Foundation will cover the participants’ costs for attending the course, including travel to Prague, food and accommodation, study materials, and visa fees, if applicable.
September 2024
The participants submit a final project in the form of a story created during the Journey program with the support of their mentors. (For more information about the project, please see the online application form.)
