The Bakala Foundation: A Decade of Advocating Education

The 10th-anniversary edition of the Bakala Foundation scholarship program is fast approaching its finale. An eight-member committee selected 27 students from 235 applicants to proceed to the second round, taking place on September 11th and 12th. Through a series of oral interviews, the selection committee will decide the beneficiaries of this year's scholarship awards. The 2019 pool of applicants primarily expressed interest in studying the social sciences, business and law (44%), natural sciences (28%) and humanities and arts (15%). Most of the students aim to study at universities in the United Kingdom. "Every meeting with our scholars is incredibly inspiring for me. They show that the young generation provides great hope for the future of this country. I look forward to getting to know this year's candidates along with their life stories in September," says Michaela Bakala. The Bakala Foundation uses its scholarships to aid students with excellent academic records but challenging financial situations. Zdenek and Michaela have proudly supported 137 talented students in the Czech Republic, and they look forward to welcoming the new students in September.
