Michaela and Zdenek Bakala and the Etixx - Quick-Step pro cycling team hosted a special cocktail function in aid of Francois Pienaar's
MAD Leadership Foundation.
An exclusive auction was held, including the auctioning of a once-in-a-lifetime experience: an all-inclusive trip for two to the Tour de France 2015 to join the Etixx - Quick-Step cycling team for a part of the race. The auction raised an exceptional amount of money for MAD Leadership Foundation which focuses on leadership development through education: the approach is to identify academically talented scholars, who do not have the necessary financial resources, and offer them support in the areas of education, leadership and life-skills development.
The greatest cycle champion of all times and five-time Tour de France winner, Eddie Merckx, also joined for this special event. Mark Cavendish and Mark Renshaw of Etixx - Quick-Step took both part in the event and also participated in a short bike ride to support MAD Charity as a part of the famous Cycle Tour, which, over the past 36 years, has emerged as one of the greatest cycling events on the planet.
The
Klein Constantia wine estate which hosted the event is co-owned by Zdenek and Michaela Bakala.
